I was really happy when I heard that John Zorn won a MacArthur Genius Grant last year. He single handedly refocused my musical aesthetic when I saw him play with Electric Masada on New Year’s Eve 2002 (at the beloved Tonic in Manhattan).
This tune, from his new record “The Dreamers” is many of my favorite Zorn’isms in a nutshell.
